When Herald Loomis, after seven years of enslavement on Joe Turner's chain gang, arrives at Seth and Bertha Holly's Pittsburgh boardinghouse, all the guests are suspicious of him. He's looking for his wife and to reclaim his former life — but Bynum Walker, a spiritual healer, senses he's really looking for his "song."
Joe Turner's Come and Gone is the second play in August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle, a sequence of ten plays spanning the twentieth century.
